While virtual reality (VR) is gaining attention for its potential of becoming the next generation collaborative gaming platform, only a little is explored with regards to the cognitive aspects during a cooperative joint action. One of such aspects is the sense of agency, which refers to the subjective awareness of control. This study aims to explore how agents’ presence and reward fairness modulate the sense of agency in a cooperative joint action, represented through a card match game. The presence variable refers to whether the partner’s avatar hand, which acts as the pointer cue, is visualized. The reward fairness variable includes four different reward conditions: unfair, equal, fair, and entire reward. Feelings of control, perceived competitiveness/cooperativeness, and perceived reward fairness are measured.
